The KIND team jumped into action in response to covid-19
Since 1998, KIND has partnered with Denver area elementary schools to provide its Chopper Topper program for children with limited access to dental care. This mobile dental sealant program travels to Denver schools to provide dental screenings, preventive dental sealants, oral health education and referrals at no cost to children in need. With Colorado’s schools closed for the duration, Chopper Topper Program Manager Lisa knew she was going to need to find creative ways to stay engaged.
Dr. Les Maes, KIND’s dentist, watched the early days of the virus with much the same thoughts in mind-how could he continue to help his patients and keep everyone safe. Shortly after Gov. Polis issued a suspension of nonessential dental procedures and just before the statewide Stay at Home order went into effect, Dr. Maes and Lisa had their answer. The team was able to quickly inventory and organize the critical PPE equipment for delivery.
Racing between multiple program locations and the KIND administrative offices, Dr. Les Maes and Lisa Valdez, DH spent Tuesday the 24th gathering as many supplies as they could.
With the help of KIND’s three clinic locations and our Chopper Topper program, we were able to donate 105 boxes of gloves, 97 boxes of masks, and 3 cases of isolation gowns. As Dr. Maes says, “Kids In Need of Dentistry is taking this crisis seriously, that is why the Denver Clinics and the Chopper Topper Program are donate their supplies to local hospitals.” KIND wanted to donate our PPE supply so that health care workers and essential personnel can use those supplies to battle the coronavirus.
It is important that we continue to be there for our community. While our dental clinics and offices may be closed, our clinic phone line (720.619.5333) remains open. Whether you have concerns about your ongoing care or questions about a dental emergency, Dr. Maes and the KIND team are here for you!
