Dr Maes has dedicated his career to helping children in need. He grew up in a small town where dental care was not always a priority for all children. He himself spent a significant amount of time in the dental chair, and still remembers his childhood dentist. As a child he had stainless steel crowns and teeth extracted. That is why he decided to become a dentist in the sixth grade. He remembers how grateful he was to his dentist, and decided at an early age that he wanted to help other people in need.
He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder. While preparing for dental school, he met his wife Veronica. They have been together for over 21 years and live in Denver with their two dogs, Bacon and Nacho.
Dr Maes graduated dental school from the University of Colorado Health Science Center with the class of 2000. After graduation he has continued his passion for helping children in need. For over 15 years, he has volunteered for Give Kids a Smile. He has participated in Projects Abroad, where he volunteered treatment to the underserved populations of Guadalajara, Mexico. He also volunteered in Guatemala for the Center for Global Health through the University of Colorado Dental School.
Currently, Dr Maes dedicates his time to serving the children of KIND. He has been helping the organization since May 2016. He is a current member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Colorado Dental Association, and Metro Denver Dental Society.
