Julie Collett Selected for Nonprofit Executive Leadership Fellowship

Julie Collett, Executive Director of Kids In Need of Dentistry, has been selected to participate in the Nonprofit Executive Leadership Fellowship granted by the Milton Murray Foundation. It is a two year fellowship which will include a short-term nonprofit management course from a choice of esteemed institutions: Harvard University, Stanford University, Claremont Graduate School or Vanderbilt University.

25th Annual Strokes of KINDness Golf Tournament Coming Soon!

It’s a year of celebrations for Kids In Need of Dentistry! First, we are celebrating 100 years of providing high quality comprehensive dental care and education to kids in need throughout Colorado. Secondly, this year is the 25th Annual Strokes of KINDness!

The tournament is scheduled for Monday, June 18, 2012, at The Golf Club at Bear Dance in Larkspur, CO. Registration and breakfast will take place between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m. with an 8:00 shotgun start. Luncheon and awards will follow.

Introducing Dr. Avani Khatri

KIND is happy to welcome Dr. Avani Khatri to the Denver clinics this year. Dr. Khatri graduated from the Colorado School of Dentistry in 2007. She has extensive experience in the field of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Khatri is a believer in educating the patient on the importance of good oral hygiene, and says “at the clinic we make it a point to go over the patient’s oral hygiene instructions with the patient and their parents at every visit.”

In her free time, Dr. Khatri enjoys volunteering with Colorado Heritage Camps, a local organization that works with adoptive families, and has been an active member of their organization since 1998. Dr. Khatri’s other hobbies include traveling, music and working out.

$100,000 PROJECT FUNDING TO BE SHARED BY FIVE MOBILE DENTAL CLINICS KENNEBUNK, Maine – March 17, 2011 – Tom’s of Maine announced today the five winning mobile dental clinics of its 2011 Dental Health for All™ (DHFA) program. Determined by public vote, these 501(c)3 non-profit clinics in good standing will split $100,000 to grow and support mobile programs that offer critical, easy-to-access dental care in local communities. This year’s DHFA program focused solely on expanding dental clinics in the field so they can bring “goodness on the go” to those unable to afford an exam or coverage.

The following organizations will each receive $20,000 thanks to the many supporters in their respective communities who cast a vote:

24th Annual Strokes of KINDness Golf Tournament

For some, the third time is the charm. For KIND the second time gave us a charmed day to play golf after our tournament was rained out in June. Perfect blue skies and crisp September air welcomed the golfers at The Golf Club at Bear Dance, near Larkspur, Colorado. The golfers, staff and volunteers all had a grand time on that pristine day raising funds for the Kids In Need of Dentistry programs.

Colorado Springs Wine Tasting Event

On August 25, 2011 of this year, the Colorado Springs KIND Clinic held our annual Wine Tasting Event again this year! It was hosted by the Warehouse Restaurant and sponsored by Cheers Liquor Mart of Colorado Springs. We had 17 wine vendors in attendance representing 13 distributors who offered 120 bottles of donated wine for the tasting!

The event was a ‘hot’ evening, with around 175 in attendance. We feel that the event had a positive out-come not only in raising funds for the clinic but it also gave us an opportunity to say “Thank You” to the founding doctors that were so instrumental in setting up the clinic in Colorado Springs.

The staff was able to share the fact that Kids In Need of Dentistry will be celebrating our 100th Anniversary in 2012 and the events connected with that milestone. We also revealed our need for continued support and assistance in finding a new home for the Colorado Springs Clinic. This year we were pleased to see a large number of local dentists and members of our dental community in attendance. We are already looking forward to next years Wine Tasting Event!

2011 Dental Dash 5K-10K Fun Run/Kids Run

Some folks like to sing in the rain. In Colorado, lots of runners don’t mind running in the rain. Especially for an awesome organization like KIND, Kids In Need of Dentistry. That’s how it went down in Broomfield on Saturday, October 8 as the first annual Dental Dash 5K-10K Fun Run/Kids Run progressed.

As the morning light faintly appeared, the skies opened up releasing sheets of rain that sliced the soggy air that hung over the course at Lac Amora Park. Though chilly and wet, the weather did not deter the spirit of the 111 participants who ran in support of Colorado’s oldest dental charity. Our biggest supporters were Dr. Robert and Kimberlie McBride from McBride Family Dental who hosted the entire event with their most gracious style and energy. Their generosity and participation are an inspiration to all of us!
